Four apply to fill G-E-T board opening

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau school board could soon be back to full capacity.

The board last Monday unanimously approved a plan to fill the current vacancy on the board left by Paul Kinzer’s resignation from the Galesville seat last month.

Four candidates have submitted letters of interest to fill the seat until April 2023, when it will be up for election. Applicants had to be from Galesville to be considered.

Board member Deb Lakey asked on Monday that the board meet with each candidate to get to know them and ask why they want to serve on the board. President Larry Moore will compile the list of questions that will be asked of all candidates.

Candidates will be interviewed by the current board in a special board meeting to help the board make a decision on appointment. That meeting has yet to be scheduled, but there is a deadline — regulations dictate the board has 60 days to fill a vacated seat.

Kinzer resigned in an email on June 14, so the board has until mid-August to fill the spot.
