Galesville groups come together to fix Arctic Springs/Fireman’s Park
A park in Galesville is getting a bit of a facelift thanks to numerous community groups working together.
The city council last week unanimously approved donating up to $2,000 to the Galesville Volunteer Trout Club to help them make multiple fixes at the park, including upgrading the shelter, walkway, dock and water.
The fixes will improve safety and make sure the park is handicap accessible, too.
“The floor of the pavilion, the shelter, is also becoming raised up from the ground and the pole is kind of coming loose, it’s a mess and a major hazard. And then they also have some repairs that are needed on their trout tanks,” councilor Jennifer Skwierawski told her peers.
The city will donate up to $2,000 for repairs with the money coming from the parks committee budget.
The parks committee budget had already been in place when the trout club president reached out, so the city couldn’t help right away. That’s when Skwierawski reached out to the North American Squirrel Association (NASA) to see if they could help, and the group donated to the project.
NASA donated more money than the city had asked for.
“We were extremely happy with the group and that helped a lot,” Skwierawski said.
The whole project will cost $6,730. The Trout Club is about $2,000 short of covering the rest of the project but plans to continue fundraising.
Whatever they can’t cover, the city has agreed to pay up to $2,000 to help finish the project.
