Trempealeau County voters support Republican candidates
Voters in Trempealeau County supported Republican candidates across the board, according to unofficial results sent to the Times Tuesday evening. However, the county vote wasn't always inline with how others in the area and state voted.
Roughly 56 percent of Trempealeau County voters favored Tim Michels for governor and Roger Roth for lieutenant governor over incumbent governor Tony Evers and running mate Sara Rodriguez. Statewide, however, Evers was projected the winner of the race by national media outlets early Wednesday morning. The results were similar in the race for attorney general with Republican caudate Eric Toney receiving 6,928 votes to incumbent Democrat Josh Kaul’s 5,259. The race was too close to call early Wednesday morning, though Kaul had a 1.29 percent lead.
In the races for Secretary of State, state treasurer, United States Senator, Third Congressional District, State Senator and Assembly District 92, the Republicans candidates all received more than 55 percent of the vote in the county.
In Assembly District 92, incumbent Treig Pronschinske outpolled challenger Maria Bamonti 7,638 to 4,587. That margin held up with votes from Jackson and Buffalo counties as Pronschinske received 14,406 votes to Bamonti's 8,280.
Dave Estenson received 6,972 Trempealeau County votes to Jeff Smith’s 5,229 for the District 31 state senator seat. Estenson won most of the counties in the district, however, Smith won Eau Claire County by a wide margin as he won the race with 38,915 votes to Estenson's 38,237. Smith declared vicotry early Wednesday morning.
Derrick Van Orden received 7,175 votes to Brad Pfaff’s 5,093 in a race to replace longtime Third Congressional District representative Ron Kind. As of early Wednesday morning, Van Orden held a four percentage point lead, though the race had yet to be officially called. Incumbent U.S. Senator Ron Johnson received 7,329 votes to 4,922 cast for Mandela Barnes. Statewide, Johnson led by nearly two percentage points early Wednesday morning, though the race had not yet been called.
Candidates for Secretary of State and state treasurer Amy Loudenbeck and John Leiber both received more than 6,800 votes in Trempealeau County.
