G-E-T net team splits matches last week

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss in Black River Falls last Tuesday with a home win over Onalaska Luther on Thursday.

The Red Hawks took the third set in a four-set loss to the Tigers on Tuesday, but earned their first win of the season in four sets over the Knights later in the week. The win improves their record to 1-4 on the season.

G-E-T was scheduled to host Viroqua on Tuesday, and will visit the Blackhawks this coming Tuesday in their next scheduled match.

The Red Hawks took the third set in Black River Falls on Tuesday, but could not pull even after falling behind 0-2 in a 3-1 loss to the Tigers.

Kayli Bratberg led G-E-T in digs with 16, with Ryann Duffenbach adding 10. Elyse Schoonover led in kills with six, with Jada Helmers adding four of her own. Kayla Schultz led in assists with 11, while Shayna Kirkey added three.

After closely contested sets split between the Red Hawks and Knights, G-E-T took control of the final two sets to clinch their first victory this season.

The Red Hawks led 12-6 in the opening set before Luther climbed back to a 23-23 tie. Both teams split the next two points before Luther took the next two points for the set win.

The Knights led by as much as 13-7 in the second set before G-E-T came back to tie at 16. Neither team led by more than two points the rest of the way, but the Red Hawks pulled away from ties at 22 and 24 to take the second set. G-E-T pulled away in the final two sets to clinch the victory.

Bratberg led the Red Hawks in digs and kills with 16 and five respectively, while Lindsey Lettner added 12 digs. Aleah Hunter had four kills, while Kirkey led in assists with 12 and Schultz added five. Bratberg and Schoonover each added three aces as well.
