I/G softball team splits two in DC

After one high-scoring game, the Independence/Gilmanton softball team’s offensive struggles returned last week.

The Indees broke out offensively in a 13-1 win over Alma Center Lincoln last week Thursday. But their hot bats didn’t carry over to the next day as they managed one run in a 4-1 loss to Augusta on Friday.

I/G entered this week with a 5-9 record as they’ve scored three runs or fewer in eight of their losses. They hosed Melrose-Mindoro on Monday before playing at Loyal on Tuesday and Pepin/Alma on Thursday.

The Indees are back in action this coming Tuesday when they play at Blair-Taylor before hosting Whitehall next Wednesday and Cochrane-Fountain City on Thursday.

I/G 13 AC Lincoln 1

After falling behind early, the Indees scored three in the third and fifth innings then broke it open with seven in the sixth.

The Hornets got on the board with a run off of a triple in the bottom of the second, but the Indees fired back with three runs in the second. They took the lead when Aubrie Pronschinske scored on a sacrifice fly by Hilari Klopp. Avery Pape then singled Emerson Pronschinske home, making the score 3-1.

Emerson Pronschinske doubled one run home in the fifth before scoring herself on a wild pitch. Alana Back singled with two outs and scored on a triple by Hailey Witte, putting the Indees ahead 6-1.

Klopp plated three runs with a triple in the sixth then scored herself on a single by Back. Alexis Dahl-Abramczak then tripled in two more runs before stealing home to put the Indees ahead 13-1.

Back and Witte both had two hits for the Indees while six other players had one. Klopp batted in four runs and Dahl-Abramczak had two RBIs.

Lydia Evans got the win, striking out three while walking three and allowing three hits.

Augusta 4 I/G 1

The Indees struggled at the plate after the Beavers took an early lead.

A leadoff walk came back to hurt the Indees with a two-out double that put Augusta ahead 1-0 in the top of the first. The Beavers added a run on an error in the third to take a 2-0 lead.

The Indees scratched one run across in the fourth as Aubrie Pronschinske led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and third on a groundout before scoring on an error.

That’s all I/G could manage, however.

The Beavers led off the fifth with two singles before a double put them ahead 4-1.

The Indees got two on with two outs in the fifth, but a strikeout ended the threat. They had runners on second and third in the sixth, but a fly out ended that chance. They again had two on, this time with one out, in the seventh, but a strike out and a pop up ended the game.

The Indees had five hits, two by Klopp, as they managed three walks and struck out five times.

Emerson Pronschinske took the loss in the circle, allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out four.
