The Arcadia boys basketball team was close in a couple of games, but fell short in both last week.

In both games, Arcadia made runs in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to Eau Claire Regis 52-45 last Monday and Black River Falls 54-40 on Friday.

Arcadia (4-14, 2-6) played in Westby on Monday and will be at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau on Thursday. This coming Monday, they’ll play at La Crosse Aquinas before hosting Onalaska Luther next Friday.

A late surge fell short for the Raiders as a second half run by the Ramblers was too much to overcome.

The game was close in the first half as Regis scored late to take a 23-19 lead into the intermission. The teams combined to score just one basket in the first four minutes of the second half before a Regis three put them ahead 28-19.

Kaiden Rotering answered with a jumper for Arcadia, but the Ramblers scored the next seven points, giving them a 11-2 run to start the half and a 35-21 lead.

Arcadia scored seven of the next nine points to get within nine, but the Ramblers went on another run to take a 43-30 lead. Regis led 50-39 with five minutes left before Arcadia made a run.

The Raiders pulled within five at 50-45 with a little more than a minute left. Regis missed two free throws, giving the Raiders a chance to pull closer, but Connor Weltzien missed the front end of a one-and-one and Regis got the rebound. The Ramblers made two free throws to go ahead by the final score with 56 seconds left in the game.

Arcadia shot 41 percent from the field, despite going four-for-15 on three-pointers. Weltzien and Kaden Updike both scored nine points to lead Arcadia while Cam Boland and Trev Bjorge both had seven.

Regis shot 54 percent from the field and was led by Kendron Krogman’s 21 points.

The Raiders couldn’t overcome a tough first half in the loss.

Arcadia scored the first five points of the game, but it was all BRF from there. The Tigers quickly tied the game up and pulled ahead as they took a 29-16 lead into halftime.

The teams went back and forth in the second half as the Raiders got a little closer, but the Tigers came away with the win.

The Raiders shot 35 percent from the field and made seven of 13 free throws. Kaiden Rotering led the team with seven points.
