Red Hawks win four events at track season opener Saturday
The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School track and field team opened the 2022 season with an invitational at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa last Saturday, and six different Red Hawks left with wins in their events.
The Red Hawks saw four athletes take second place while three others took third. Team scores were not recorded.
G-E-T is scheduled to compete in an invitational meet at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday.
Senior Will Thompson had a busy day for G-E-T, winning both the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches) and long jump (20-10) while also placing second in the triple jump (40-04).
The team’s 3,200-meter relay team of Lance Jumbeck, Carter Gold, Ethan Burmeister and Xander Burmeister recorded the Red Hawks’ other victory, beating second place North Iowa Buffalo Center by seven seconds.
Sophomore Kaylee Hauge earned the Red Hawks’ lone win on the girls’ side of the meet, taking the top spot in the 400-meter race. Hauge ran the event in 1:02.99 to edge Onalaska’s Alexandra Thomas (1:03.66).
Sophomore Adrianna Rotering (1600-meter) and senior Lindsey Lettner (long jump) each placed second in their events for the Red Hawks.
Derrell Womack, Charles Mattison, Elijah Sorenson and Charlie Caya combined for a second place finish in the mens’ SMR event in 4:17.42 behind Decorah at 3:50.10.
Ethan Burmeister ran a 2:15.27 in the 800-meter run to finish third, and the Red Hawks’ 3200 relay team of Avali Bratberg, Aleah Hunter, Rotering and Tauna Janssen also took third in 11:04.94.
