Indees finish season with lopsided loss to Beavers

Augusta’s powerful rushing attack was too much for Independence/Gilmanton as the Beavers ran for six touchdowns in the first half of a 54-13 win.

The game was the last of the season for the Indees, which scored two touchdowns in the third quarter, but couldn’t get back in the game. The Beavers ran for 341 yards — averaging nearly 11 per attempt.

In its first year under coach Todd Fischer, I/G finished the season with a 1-8 overall record and 1-6 mark in Dairyland Conference play, head of Eleva-Strum. Their win snapped a 17-game losing streak. They were close in other games, but weren’t able to pull out victories.

Jackson Laxon saw a lot of action as he scored three touchdowns in the first half.

The Augusta fullback got the scoring started about four and a half minutes in with a one-yard touchdown, capping a 69-yard drive.

After an I/G fumble, Levi White ran 16 yards for another touchdown about two minutes later. Both two-point conversions were successful as Augusta went ahead 16-0.

The Beavers turned the Indees back on a fourth down at the Augusta 25. It took four plays for Augusta to get to midfield, then just one more to find the end zone as Ben Dickinsen ran for a 50-yard touchdown. The two-point try was stopped, but Augusta took a 22-0 lead with 1:51 left in the first quarter.

Another I/G fumble gave the Beavers the ball back and Laxon found the end zone on the first play of the second quarter with a 12-yard touchdown. The two-point try made the score 30-0.

After yet another I/G fumble, the Beavers scored again as Laxon ran it in from seven yards out and the two-point try made the score 38-0 with 10:15 left in the first half. 

I/G got near midfield on their next drive before an incomplete pass on fourth down. The Beavers needed just one play to add to the lead as Dickensen scored on a 49-yard run. The two-point pass made the score 46-0, which is where it stood at halftime. 

The Indees cut into the lead early in the third quarter when Ben Pyka found space and ran for a 41-yard touchdown. Hunter Guenther’s point after made the score 46-7.

The Beavers responded with a touchdown on their next possession and the two-point conversion put them ahead by 47 points.

Pyka found space again, running for a 76-yard touchdown with 18 seconds left in the third quarter. The point after was blocked so the long run would be the last points the Indees would score on the season. 

Pyka ran for 129 yards on seven attempts as the Indees managed 135 total yards from scrimmage. Dickinsen ran for 108 yards on four carries for Augusta while Laxon had 82 on 10 attempts, the two combined for five touchdown runs. Augusta did not attempt a pass in the game.
