Red Hawk boys beat Altoona, drop pair of wild games

After starting last week with a win, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau boys basketball team found themselves on the wrong end of two down-to-the-wire contests to close the week.

The Red Hawks showed their offensive dominance in a win over Altoona last Tuesday before falling to Arcadia on a free throw in the dying seconds (see story elsewhere in Sports) and losing to Holmen in overtime.

A trip to Elk Mound greeted G-E-T (10-10 overall, 5-4 Coulee Conference) on Monday, and the Red Hawks will also visit Black River Falls (9-12, 3-7 Coulee) for a conference matchup this Friday.

Junior Cody Schmitz earned a double-double with 31 points and 11 rebounds to power the Red Hawks to their 10th win of the season last Tuesday.

Senior Brady Seiling and Junior Braden Anibas each chipped in 12 points apiece as the hosts scored 38 points in each half.

Altoona (6-13) got 22 points from Keaton Camastral.

It took overtime for the Vikings (10-10) to take down the Red Hawks in Friday’s nonconference matchup at G-E-T High School.

Schmitz again paced G-E-T—this time with a 38-point night—and Anibas also hit double digits for the second straight game with 14 points.

Kaiden Wilber (20) and Drew Tengblad (18) led the way for the visitors.
