Red Hawk girls fourth, boys sixth at Eau Claire track invite
The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School track and field team racked up the points at an invitational meet at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The Red Hawk girls ran to a fourth-place finish as a team with 69.5 points, beaten only by Rice Lake (162), Menomonie (91) and Tomah (71). The boys took sixth with 38.5 points behind Menomonie (146.5), Rice Lake (129), Tomah (71), Eau Claire North (57.5) and McDonell Central (41).
A pair of Red Hawks earned first place finishes in the girls’ competitions on Friday, both in field events.
Junior Alayna Stendahl won the long jump competition and teammate Jordan Stanislowski had the best triple jump.
Stendahl and Stanislowski also joined Madelyn Seymour and Kaylee Hauge to earn a third-place finish in the 800-meter relay.
The 1600 relay team of Seymour, Stendahl, Elyse Schoonover and Hauge took second and were bested only by Menomonie (4:33.15). Adrianna Rotering earned a pair of second-place finishes for G-E-T, one in the open 800 and another with teammates Delilah Boberg, Anya Wolfe and Nora Higgins as part of the 3200 relay.
Junior Shelby Hass also cracked the top three for G-E-T in the shot put, taking third.
The boys also saw success on Friday at the meet hosted by Eau Claire North, with five athletes earning top three honors between two events.
The Red Hawks won the 3200-meter relay thanks to Carter Giemza, Sawyer Smock, Xander Burmeister and Sam Ruiter. The quad outpaced St. Croix Central by three seconds to win the event.
Senior Brady Seiling took third in high jump.
The Red Hawks are scheduled to have a week off from competition before resuming with an invitational at Holmen High School April 11.
