Raider track teams sweep county meet

Arcadia High School walked away with bragging rights at one of the most historic track and field meets in the state last week.

The Raiders swept the annual Trempealeau County invitational meet by winning both the girls and boys team titles last Monday at Whitehall High School.

Arcadia won nine events in both the girls and boys competitions on Monday, the most of any team.

Eleva-Strum finished second in the girls events with 128 points, while the Raiders had an event-best 155. Whitehall was third with 114, followed by Blair-Taylor (78.5), Independence/Gilmanton (57), Osseo-Fairchild (48) and G-E-T (41.5).

The Raider boys (209) were the only team to top 200 team points on Monday, and Blair-Taylor earned the second best day with a 121. The G-E-T Red Hawks took third (102), followed by Eleva-Strum (77), Whitehall (59), the Indees (54) and Osseo-Fairchild (46).

Raider girls combine to win nine events

Freshman Jaylie Dahl scored a plethora of points for Arcadia on Monday, winning the 200 and 400-meter races while taking second in the 100-meter dash.

Arcadia also got multiple placements from junior Casidi Pehler, who won the pole vault and the discus events before helping the 400 relay team to a this place run with teammates Breah Golden, Josee Pehler and Malaina Tullius.

Golden had the best high jump of any female athlete on Monday, and two other Raiders won events, too—senior Tegan Michalak ran the fastest 1600 and 3200-meter races, and Joselyn Lockington was crowned the winner of the open 800-meter run while taking second in the 400 behind Dahl.

Blair-Taylor’s Paige Kelly had a fine day on Monday to represent the Wildcats, winning the 100-meter dash before also taking the top spot in the 300-meter hurdles. The Wildcats also won the 3200-meter relay thanks to Ella Halverson, Noelle Walters, Isabelle Woodard and Emmalee Johnson.

Sara Steffenson earned the Wildcats’ final victory with a winning leap of 14 feet, 2.75 inches in the long jump.

Whitehall had a pair of winners at the meet in Alexis Correa (triple jump) and Mia Sygulla (100-meter hurdles). Osseo-Fairchild’s lone win came in the 400 relay.

Bremer, Teske lead Arcadia boys to victory

Arcadia junior Landan Bremer won four different events and teammate Ted Teske had a hand in three other event wins on Monday to shoulder the scoring for the Raider boys.

Bremer raced to first place in the 100, 200 and 400-meter sprints, also adding a win in the long jump. Teske, a sophomore, won the open 800-meter run and was part of the 1600-meter relay team that took first as well. He finished his scoring with a second-place leap in the high jump.

Trey Lyga also scored points for Arcadia by sweeping the throwing events—the sophomore won the shot put event with a throw of 39 feet, 11.5 inches before tossing the discus an event-best 114 feet, seven inches. Lyga also took fourth in high jump.

Arcadia’s other wins came from Nestor Badillo in the open 800.

Blair-Taylor won six events on the boys’ side, including two relays. The 3200 relay team of Delorean Peterson, Juan Lopez, Ryan Flynn and Kristoffer Sandal won their relay, and the 800 relay team of Hunter Wagner, Riley McAdams, Connor Kruse and DaVonne Turner also won.

Peterson won the 3200-meter race, and Wagner earned a pair of other wins in the 300 hurdles and triple jump. Ethan Kniseley won the high jump to round out the Wildcats’ wins.

Multiple other county athletes took home top honors, including G-E-T’s 400-meter relay team of Max Knapmiller, Brady Seiling, Kyle Seiling and Charlie Mattison.

Max Marsolek won the pole vault competition for Independence/Gilmanton with his jump, while Osseo-Fairchild got its lone win from Mason Scheffer in the 110-meter hurdles.
