Arcadia softball grabs two wins

The Arcadia high school softball team added two more victories to its resume last week.

The Raiders handled La Crosse Logan on Thursday before earning a Coulee Conference victory with a win against Viroqua on Friday.

West Salem handed the team its only loss of the week last Tuesday.

Arcadia (3-8 overall, 2-5 Coulee) was set to host Luther on Monday before continuing play against Tomah on Tuesday. The Raiders also visit Westby on Thursday.

The Panthers found offense early and often to put away the host Raiders in six innings last Tuesday.

West Salem (7-5, 4-2 Coulee) grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first inning and held the hosts to two hits in the game.

Arcadia’s Kaitlyn Bremer allowed 11 hits and five earned runs, striking out a handful of Panthers.

It was Arcadia that came away with the shutout victory in Thursday’s clash.

The Raiders stacked together nine hits to beat Logan at home and were led by a three-hit performance from Kiley Fitzpatrick. Tessah Ely added a pair of hits of her own for Arcadia.

Arcadia scored two runs in the third before closing the scoring with two more scores in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Bremer got her second straight start, striking out 10 Logan batters while allowing just three hits.

Arcadia 8 Viroqua 7

Facing a 4-3 deficit through two innings in Friday’s conference bout in Viroqua, Arcadia needed a big showing.

They likely got more than even they expected, erupting for five runs in the top of the sixth inning to give the Raiders the push they needed for their second Coulee win.

Six different players contributed with a hit on offense for Arcadia, with Brynn Aspen hitting a double and Fitzpatrick belting a triple. Both players joined Whitney Sonsalla with two RBI apiece.

Bremer threw all seven innings, allowing eight hits while striking out eight Blackhawk batters and walking three others.
