Arcadia Habitat work to resume

Habitat for Humanity will kick off the resumption of construction of a home in Arcadia with an open house and cook out May 25.

“Everyone is invited,” said LaCrosse Habitat for Humanity executive director Kahya Fox. The event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the site of the home, 1109 East Wilson Avenue.

Those interested in volunteering for the project will be able to get information at the event, Fox said.

Construction on the home for Marcelina Jose and her five children began last year. Its completion was delayed by a shortage of subcontractors, Fox said.

In addition to the efforts of volunteers and contributions, Jose and her family will devote 350 hours to working on the home. She will pay the market value for the house with a zero-percent loan from habitat, property taxes and homeowners’ insurance.
