Wildcats cruise in five games, win close against C-FC

The Blair-Taylor softball team outscored its opponents 77-8 in six wins last week.

B-T scored at least 10 runs in five of the wins, winning each by at least nine runs. Their only close game was a 5-3 victory over Cochrane-Fountain City on Thursday.

The Wildcats began this week with a 16-1 record before playing a doubleheader at home against Alma Center Lincoln on Tuesday. They’re set to play at Melrose-Mindoro on Thursday and at home against Pepin/Alma on Friday. The regular season will conclude next week as B-T is scheduled to play at Augusta on Monday, at home against Prescott on Wednesday and Thorp on Thursday.

B-T 10 G-E-T 1

The Wildcats scored the first seven runs as they took control of the game early.

B-T scored one run in the first then added another on an error in the second. After a sacrifice fly made the score 3-0, Abby Thompson and Lexi Lofgren had consecutive RBI hits to put B-T ahead by five runs.

Madalynn Frederixon reached on an error in the third then scored on a fielder’s choice before Lindsay Steien singled Sydney Fremstad home. 

G-E-T’s only run came in the top of the fourth when Maggie Bistodeau tripled to bring a run home. 

B-T got that back on an error in the fourth then Fremstad singled in two runs in the sixth.

The Wildcats had 11 hits as a team with Steien, Thompson, Frederixon and Anna White all picking up two. 

Steien pitched the first five innings, holding G-E-T to two hits while she struck out five. Thompson closed the game, allowing two hits while striking out two. Neither walked a batter.

B-T 14 Eleva-Strum 3

The Wildcats scored four runs in the top of the first and never looked back.

A three-run triple by Lydia Frederixon put B-T ahead 4-0 in the top of the first. The hit scored two runners and Frederixon came home herself on an errant throw. 

B-T added another run in the second and two in the third and fourth innings to go ahead 10-0.

E-S got on the board with one run in the bottom of the fourth, B-T responded with four in the fifth, including a two-run inside-the-park home run by Andrea Waldera. 

B-T had 11 hits in the game as Steien went three-for-three with an RBI. Frederixon batted in four runs while Thompson and Waldera both had two RBIs. White and Callie Wagner both had one RBI.

Thompson got the start and the win, striking out five and holding E-S to one hit in three innings. Madalynn Frederixon pitched the final two innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out three. 

B-T 16 E-S 0

B-T scored seven runs in the first inning and nine in the third before the mercy rule ended the game.

Lydia Frederixon, Kierstyn Kindschy and White all had RBIs as part of a seven-run first inning. Steien, Wagner, Kindschy and Fremstad all had RBI hits in the third. The Wildcats also took advantage of six walks and two errors.

Steien got the win, not allowing a hit or a walk, while striking out seven in three innings.

B-T had nine hits as Kindschy led the way with two and four RBIs. White batted in three runs, Fremstad and Wagner both had two RBIs, while Steien and Lydia Frederixon had one. 

B-T 10 Mondovi 0

The Buffaloes couldn’t touch Thompson, while B-T raked 15 hits to win the game in five innings.

Thompson didn’t allow a hit in the winning effort as she struck out 10 with one walk. The only other base runner Mondovi had came off of an error in the first inning.

The B-T senior gave her team the lead with an RBI single to score Steien, who led off the bottom of the first with a triple. Thompson later scored on an error to put her team ahead 2-0 after one inning.

Steien hit her second triple of the game in the second, this time two runs scored as Fremstad scored off of the hit and Steien came home on the throw. Another run scored on an error later in the inning.

B-T scored three in the fourth as Wagner and Fremstad had RBI hits. Thompson hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth then scored on a sacrifice fly, ending the game by rule. 

Steien went four-for-four with two triples and a double. Lofgren added three hits, including a triple. Thompson and Wagner both had two hits. 

B-T 5 C-FC 3

The Wildcats held off a tough conference challenge as they took an early lead and closed out the win.

C-FC scored in the bottom of the first before B-T took the lead with four straight singles, including RBIs by Kindschy and Fremstad. Lofgren put the team ahead 3-1 with a double in the third. Steien led off the fifth with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Thompson.

The Pirates mounted a comeback with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to pull within one. Steien got a strikeout and a groundout to end the threat. 

B-T added an insurance run in the seventh when Fremstad led off with a single and pinch runner Andi Beck scored on a groundout by Steien.

Steien got the start and the win, pitching five innings and striking out nine without a walk. Thompson got the save, pitching the last two innings with three strikeouts. C-FC singled with two outs in the seventh, but Thompson got a strikeout to end the game.

B-T’s lineup was balanced as they had nine hits and Fremstad (two-for-three) was the only player with more than one. 

B-T 22 I/G 1

The first batter of the game homered for B-T and they didn’t slow down much from there.

Steien took a 2-0 pitch and launched it over the fence in left field to give her team a lead. They added another run on a double by Lydia Frederixon. 

The Indees got on the board in the bottom of the first when Rhianna Theisen launched an offering from Thompson over the fence in center field, but that’s all they’d get.

Steien homered again in the second and Frederixon hit an RBI triple in the third, making the score 4-1. 

The Wildcats broke the game open with 18 runs on 11 hits in the fifth. Kindschy had four RBIs in the inning with a single and a double. Thompson added a two-run double, Lofgren had a two-run single. 

B-T had 16 hits in the game as Steien and Kindschy both had three. Thompson, Lofgren and Frederixon all had two hits.

Thompson got the win, allowing three hits while striking out nine without a walk. 

Theisen had two of I/G’s three hits.
