G-E-T, Whitehall boys golf teams round out top 12 at Northern Bay

Three county prep golf teams competing at Northern Bay Golf Resort last Thursday got a taste of professional golf and finished inside the top 12 team scores.

Both G-E-T (11th) and Whitehall (12th) took part in the invitational meet, hosted by Adams-Friendship at the par-72 course that features replica holes from courses frequented by the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA).

Osseo-Fairchild also competed at the meet.

Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Junior Domanick Knott showcased as the county’s top golfer at the event with his 18-over par 90, which tied him for the 15th best score of the day.

Seventeen teams took part in the tournament, which was won by Hartford Union’s team score of 323. They were helped by seeing five of their golfers finish in the top 10, a group that included the top individual score of any golfer in sophomore Owen Kuepper’s 75.

Wautoma finished second as a team with their 355, and rounding out the top five were Cochrane-Fountain City at 360, Lourdes Academy at 362 and Wittenberg-Birnamwood with a 368.

The Coulee Conference leader on Thursday was Westby, whose 374 was good for sixth. Other teams finishing ahead of the Trempealeau County teams included Black River Falls (383), Adams-Friendship (384), Neillsville (390) and Stanley-Boyd.

Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau’s 403 was enough to beat six other teams at the tournament, including Whitehall (410), Cadott (410), Nekoosa (415), Osseo-Fairchild (416), Markesan (427) and Wonewoc-Center (incomplete).

Brooks Hoffland of Westby was the top Coulee golfer at the event with his second-place 77. 

Red Hawk teammates joining Knott at the event included Nic Jumper, who shot a 96, Mason Kromrey (99), Aiden Johnson (118) and Kylan Olson (124).

Keanu Estenson led the way for Whitehall with his 92, which tied him for 23rd place. Drake Jurowski tied with teammates Grant Olson and Gus Poulos at 106 for the Norse, and Kaehl Baken rounded out the team scores with a 107.
