Red Hawks win three of four conference baseball outings

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau high school baseball team earned a cluster of Coulee Conference wins last week to stay in the top group of the conference field.
The Red Hawks (11-7 overall, 6-3 Coulee) topped West Salem, Viroqua and Arcadia before the latter got revenge to hand G-E-T its only loss of the week on Friday (see story elsewhere in Sports).
More conference action is ahead for G-E-T this week, starting with a visit to Westby on Tuesday and a trip to Black River Falls on Thursday. Friday will see the Red Hawks play at Logan.
G-E-T 5 West Salem 4
Walk it off, Owen Eddy.
The G-E-T senior singled a line drive into left field in the bottom of the seventh inning last Monday, a hit that scored Calvin Davis for the walk-off conference win over the Panthers.
West Salem tied the game with two runs in the fifth inning before Eddy’s hit in a game that saw G-E-T out-hit the visitors eight to six.
Five different Red Hawks recorded at least a hit, and Collin Handke had a team-best three. Handke also got the start on the mound for the hosts, allowing six hits and zero earned runs against.
G-E-T 5 Viroqua 1
The Red Hawks still left with the win last Tuesday despite being out-hit on the road.
Senior Thomas Haney led G-E-T with a pair of hits, and Warren Stoner hit a double to help the visitors build a 5-0 advantage prior to a late run for the Blackhawks.
Stoner pitched nearly five innings and allowed five hits before Oliver Marley came on in relief. Marley finished with five strikeouts and one hit allowed.
G-E-T 6 Arcadia 3
After facing a 3-2 disadvantage through four innings, the visiting Red Hawks found enough offense late to leave Arcadia High School with a win last Thursday.
Handke gave the visitors the lead on a passed ball in the top of the seventh inning, and a Ben Hansen single brought home Eddy and junior Jack Beedle for scoring insurance and the three-run advantage.
Eddy had a productive day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles. Handke also had two hits, as did teammate Brenden Brady.
Arcadia combined for a handful of hits, and pitchers Login Scow and Vince Braun combined to strike out three G-E-T batters, allowing eight hits and two earned runs.
The Red Hawks were also productive in the pitchers’ circle, as Eddy and Haney combined to allow zero earned runs against, striking out nine Raider batters and walking three.
