Whitehall golf team advances to sectional

The Whitehall golf team’s season continued into at least this week as the Norse took third at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Three Cochrane-Fountain City regional last week Tuesday. 

Whitehall shot a 380, nine strokes behind second-place Onalaska Luther, while Dairyland Conference champion C-FC shot a 342 to claim the regional title on its home course. The fourth and final team qualifier was Nekoosa, which came in with a 384.

Three Norse golfers finished with scores better than 95 on the par-70 course. Keanu Estenson led the team with a 91, shooting a 44 on the front nine and 47 on the back. Matthew Poulos had splits of 43 and 50 and Drake Jurowski had a 42 and a 52 as the two had total scores of 93 and 94. Grant Olson shot a 102 and Kaehl Baken came in with a 106 for the Norse. Both shot better on the front nine than the back as Olson had splits of 45 and 57 while Baken’s were 47 and 59.

Independence also competed in the meet, taking eighth with a 534, ahead of Coulee Chrstiain/Providence Academy’s 1,376.

Charlie Baize shot a 115 to lead the Indees while Mitch Halverson came in with a 121; Ethan Bouzek, 147 and Max Dejno, 151. 

While they fell short in the team standings, taking fifth with a 407, Alma/Pepin had two of the four individual slots with Keegen Stiehl and Trenton Krzoska. The other two individuals came from Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, which shot a 416. Port Edwards was seventh with a 453.
