Whitehall legion gets first win, falters late against Osseo

The Hutchins-Stendahl American Legion Post 191 baseball team picked up its first win of the season last week and nearly got a second.
There was no doubt who would win early on in Black River Falls last week Tuesday as Whitehall scored five runs in the first and didn’t look back with a 15-0 win. Post 191 took an early lead again on Thursday, this time it was just 2-0 and it wouldn’t last as Osseo came alive with nine runs in the sixth inning.
With the win, Whitehall moved to 1-5 in Coulee Region American Legion Baseball League play as their season begins to wind down. Post 191 will host Sparta for a game on Thursday of this week before heading to Holmen on Saturday. This coming Tuesday, they’ll play in Arcadia.
The Wisconsin American Legion baseball tournament is set to begin on July 21.
Whitehall 15 BR Falls 0
Whitehall’s bats got going early as they took a big lead in the first.
Post 191 scored five runs on two walks, two hits — including a triple by Hunter Guenther — and an error in the first inning. Brock Sluga hit a two-run triple in the second then scored himself on an error. Guenther added an RBI double in the fourth and another run scored on a wild pitch, putting Post 191 ahead 10-0.
Guenther and Sluga both had RBI singles as part of a five-run fifth that also saw an RBi single by Broc Coburn.
Guenther and Sluga both had three hits to lead Post 191.
Osseo 10 Whitehall 2
Post 191 was in position to get its second win of the week, but the game got away from them late.
Whitehall scored two runs in the third inning to take the lead. Brayden Lisowski led off the inning with a double before Brock Sluga tripled and scored later in the inning.

The 2-0 Whitehall lead held until the fifth when Osseo got on the board with one run. Things fell apart for Whitehall in the sixth as Osseo scored nine runs to break the game open after Lisowski reached his pitch limit.
Lisowski led Whitehall at the plate with two of its five hits in the game. He held Osseo to just two hits in the first five innings of the game before reaching his pitch limit in the sixth.
