I/G’s Guenther, E-S’ Bjerke earn all-state mention
Two Dairyland Conference players were honorable mention for the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All-State teams, announced last week.
Independence/Gilmanton’s Hunter Guenther was honorable mention as a pitcher. He went 7-1 for the Indees this past season with a 0.28 earned run average, with just two earned runs allowed all season. He allowed just 21 hits and 10 walks in 56 innings, while striking out 118 batters. Guenther also hit .459 at the plate with three home runs.
The Indees tied for second in the Dairyland Conference behind only Eleva-Strum. The Cardinals, led by honorable mention all-state infielder Jake Bjerke, had just one loss in the regular season. They advanced to the sectional final where they fell to eventual state champion, Ithaca. Bjerke, a junior, hit .542 on the season, third best amongst players who earned honorable mention.
