Area athletes compete in all-star basketball games
Several area basketball players competed in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-Star Games in Wisconsin Dells last week with one even leading her winning team in scoring.
Breah Golden put up 12 points — tied with Brillion’s Megan Schuman for the best on the team — as her Division Three North team defeated the South team, 73-69, last Wednesday. Golden exits the Arcadia girls basketball program as its all-time leading scorer, despite not playing much as a freshman due to an injury. She will continue playing at the collegiate level, joining NCAA Division II Lake Superior State.
The high-scoring Blair-Taylor duo of Abby Thompson and Lindsay Steien played for the Division Five South team. Thompson scored eight points and Steien finished with seven in a 75-68 loss to its North counterparts.
Golden wasn’t the only Arcadia athlete to make the trip to Wisconsin Dells as Connor Weltzien scored six points for his Division Three White team in a 113-92 loss on Thursday.
Whitehall’s Devon McCune scored 12 points for his Division Four Red team in a 123-101 loss to the White team. McCune led the Norsemen to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Tournament and three Dairyland Conference titles as he exits as the program’s all-time leading scorer.
