Arcadia legion sweeps Whitehall, falls to Holmen

The Arcadia Post 17 legion baseball team found its groove on offense in a doubleheader against Whitehall last Tuesday and turned that action into a pair of dominant wins.
Arcadia fell at the hands of Holmen on Wednesday to finish the week.
Post 17 was set to host Bangor on Monday before the legion regional playoffs begin on Friday. Arcadia will play Whitehall in the first game of the Wisconsin American Legion Class A Osseo regional at 5 p.m. that day. The winner of that game will play again at noon on Saturday, the loser will play at 2:30 p.m. the same day in the double-elimination tournament.
The regional tournament is scheduled to go through Sunday with a possible game on Monday. Teams from Osseo, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau and Baldwin are also playing in the regional. The regional champion will advance to the Class A State Tournament in Prairie du Chien with games being played next weekend.
Arcadia 11 Whitehall 0
The home team started game one with fire last Tuesday at Parker Hagg Field in Arcadia.
Carson Martin got things going for Post 17 with a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning, and Prestin Scow brought Martin home two at-bats later on a single to left field that gave the hosts an early 3-0 lead.
Arcadia (10-9 this summer) built on that early advantage, adding a handful of runs in the second inning before scoring three more times in the bottom of the fourth.
Scow started on the mound for Arcadia, limiting Whitehall to four hits in four innings. Connor Weltzien closed the game, needing just eight pitches for two strikeouts.
Max Sobotta and Dean Baier tied for the team lead with two hits each, while Weltzien and Martin each finished with two RBI.
Whitehall got two hits from Hunter Guenther, including a double. Brayden Lisowski pitched for the visitors, allowing seven hits while walking eight batters and striking out three.
Arcadia 10 Whitehall 3
The home team kept its offensive power at full blast in game two — Post 17 scored nine runs in the first inning to lead them to the series sweep.
Whitehall scored three runs in the fourth inning to get on the board before the game ended in the fifth.
Arcadia (seven) out-hit Whitehall (three) in the effort and were led by two hits from Max Blaschko.
Bryce Schorbahn brought home two of Whitehall’s runs with a single in the fourth and got on base three times for the visitors in game two.
Three different players split pitching duties for Arcadia in Carson Wozney, Vince Braun and Caleb Pronschinske. The pitchers combined for four strikeouts, two walks and four hits allowed.
Holmen 6 Arcadia 3
A seventh-inning falter led to Post 17’s only loss last week.
Arcadia hosted Holmen last Wednesday and took a 3-2 lead into the seventh and final inning, when the visitors scored four runs in the top half of the inning to steal the win.
Holmen out-hit the hosts six to three, with Weltzien, Braun and Login Scow recording hits for Arcadia.
Weltzien pitched the first six innings for Arcadia and hit double digits in strikeouts (10) while allowing four hits and two runs against.
Login Scow and Carson Martin closed the day for Arcadia, allowing two hits, four runs and one walk along with a strikeout from Scow.
