Post 354 outlasts Tomah in high scoring legion matchup

A single run made the difference for the Red Hawks Post 354 legion baseball team last week despite the team reaching double digits on the scoreboard.

After both sides traded four runs apiece in the fifth inning, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau squad outlasted Tomah by scoring once in the sixth for an 11-10 win on the road last Monday. 

A mental lapse by the hosts gave G-E-T the win, as a balk scored Brenden Brady on what would stand as the winning run. 

Runs were traded all evening between the teams. 

Tomah grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and the Red Hawks took the lead back with a 4-2 lead in the third. 

Tomah tied the game at six in the fourth inning before the fifth inning boon from both sides. 

Collin Handke brought home two teammates with a double to help G-E-T take its short-lived advantage in the fifth, while Chris Wagner and Warren Stoner scored the other Post 354 runs in the inning. 

Nine errors hurt G-E-T on defense, but 11 hits helped the visitors offset those mistakes. 

Handke and Calvin Davis provided three hits apiece for G-E-T, and Myles Marley hit a pair. 

Davis’ hits included two doubles on a day Post 354 combined for five extra-base hits as a team—Davis had a triple and a double, and Brenden Brady also hit a double. 

Oines pitched three innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs to go with a walk. 

Davis started for G-E-T, striking out three batters while giving up seven hits and a pair of earned runs. 

Brady got the victory, allowing no hits to accompany three walks and a strikeout in just over an inning of work.
