My Second Home wins B&D Days tournament

My Second Home emerged as the champions of the Beef and Dairy Days Fastpitch Softball tournament in Whitehall on Sunday.

Behind the pitching of Ethan Ringlien, My Second Home topped Pleasantville Lions, 2-1, in the championship game. Ringlien struck out 14 and only allowed one hit in the game. 

Pleasantville took an early lead as Kelby Estenson walked and scored on an error in the third inning. Both of My Second Home’s runs came in the bottom half of that inning as Derek Morris and Skyler Herman both singled and scored on a hit by Collin Weltzien. 

Ringlien went 2-0 in the tournament, the team also got wins from Drew Anderson and Curtis Weltzien as it went 4-0.

The first game the eventual champions played came against the same team it defeated in the championship, with My Second Home winning its opener over Pleasantville, 4-2. Ringlien was the winning pitcher in that game, striking out 13 with five hits allowed. Aaron Berg gave the team an early lead with a two-run home run in the first inning. Gary Saartor had a two-run single in the third. 

That was followed by a 12-5 win over Ritter Hardware. Anderson struck out seven, while allowing six hits in the winning effort. Isaac Pape had three hits for My Second Home, while Nate Berg was two-for-two. Alex Eid and Bryce Schorbahn both had two hits for Ritter. 

Curtis Weltzien earned the win in a 13-4 decision over East End Bar as My Second Home improved to 3-0 in the tournament. Collin Weltzien, Saartor and Nate Berg all had three hits. Clayton Johnson had three hits for East End, while Brett Gamroth was two-for-two.

My Second Home was the only team to defeat Pleasantville.

The tournament runner-up opened with an 8-1 win over East End as Shandler Herman struck out nine while allowing four hits. Herman also added a two-run single in the game. 

Pleasantville later topped Ritter Hardware, 7-4. The Lions scored four runs in the first inning and three in the second. Austin Knopps and Kelby Estenson had two-run singles and Dan Schulte had a two-run double. Ritter got a two-run home run from Brock Sluga and a two-run double from Eid. Herman was the winning pitcher, striking out seven while allowing five hits. 

The only other game of the tournament was a 12-0 win by Ritter over East End. Eid pitched a five-inning no-hitter and Sluga was two-for-three at the plate. 

Four different players from My Second Home were named to the all-tournament team, including Ringlien, Nate Berg, Aaron Berg and Collin Weltzien. Shandler Herman, Schulte and Taylor Boe represented Pleasantville while Eid and Schorbahn were honored from Ritter and Gamroth made the team for East End.
