West Salem beats G-E-T in Coulee net play

West Salem has been one of the strongest volleyball programs in the Coulee Conference for the past several years, and they took care of business against Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau again last week.

The Panthers, who remain unbeaten (3-0) in conference play as of last week, swept the Red Hawks (4-7 overall, 2-1 Coulee) in three games, winning the match at West Salem High School to improve to 4-2 this season.

Arcadia is set to visit G-E-T for a Trempealeau County clash this Thursday in the Red Hawks’ lone game this week.

West Salem appears ready to keep its recent string of success alive one year after being one win short of a WIAA state tournament appearance.

West Salem took control of last Thursday’s match from the start, holding the Red Hawks to just 11 points in the opening game.

The Panthers continued their success from there to earn the sweep with wins in games two and three.

Strong serving was part of West Salem’s attack, as the hosts delivered 11 aces as a team.

Cadence Simmons, Amara Brantner and Sydney Nelson co-led the Red Hawks with four kills apiece, and Kaylee Hauge led the visitors in digs with 15. Laela Schmitt paced G-E-T with 13 assists, and Tatum Johnson contributed three aces while serving.
