Arcadia turns aside E-S, sweeps BRF

The Arcadia softball team owns a three-game winning streak and has won five of their last six games after a strong showing last week.

The Raiders (8-5, 6-2 Coulee) used a late surge to fight past Eleva-Strum early in the week and then dominated a doubleheader against Black River Falls a couple days later.

The new month starts with a pair of road games for Arcadia: at Viroqua on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and at La Crosse Central Friday at 4:30 p.m. Following the weekend, they host G-E-T Monday at 5:30 p.m. and Melrose-Mindoro Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The Raiders turned a 3-1 deficit into an 8-4 victory over the Cardinals (6-3) thanks to a spectacular final couple of innings last Tuesday in Arcadia.

In the bottom of the fifth, Tatum Drazkowski tied the game with a two-run blast and Madison Grotjahn gave Arcadia the lead with a two-out, two-run single. The Raiders added on in the sixth inning with RBI doubles by both Drazkowski and Layna Wozney along with an RBI single by Amaya Schlesser.

Drazkowski finished 2 for 4 with a home run, double and three RBIs while Wozney went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles.

The Raiders were the model of consistency in their nine-run win over Black River Falls in last week’s doubleheader, scoring in all but one inning for a lopsided victory.

Drazkowski helped lead the charge yet again by going 2 for 3 with a triple, a walk, two RBIs and three runs, Tessah Ely finished 2 for 3 with a double and a walk and Fitzpatrick went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Wozney gave up four unearned runs and struck out five in six innings to earn the win, surrendering six hits and five walks along the way.
