G-E-T sweeps Westby to keep train rolling

Halfway through conference play, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau softball team still hasn’t been beaten by any Coulee opponent.

The Red Hawks (8-2, 6-0 Coulee) continued their excellent run through conference play by sweeping a doubleheader against Westby. Earlier in the week, they endured a non-conference defeat at the hands of undefeated Tomah for just their second loss this season.

G-E-T has upcoming non-conference road tests against La Crosse Aquinas on Thursday at 5 p.m. and Sparta on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by Coulee road games against Arcadia on Monday at 5:30 p.m. and Onalaska Luther on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Tomah 9 G-E-T 1

A tight 2-1 game was turned into a rout thanks to the Timberwolves (12-0) tagging the Red Hawks for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth during their tilt last Tuesday in Tomah.

Caroline Mack’s RBI groundout gave G-E-T a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, only for Tomah to score the next nine runs in the game. Halene DeJager and Kennedy Scow had the only hits for the Red Hawks in the loss.

G-E-T 10 Westby 4

An early barrage of runs allowed the Red Hawks to control almost the entire game in their first of two wins against Westby (3-7, 1-5) last Thursday in Galesville.

The Norsemen scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, only for G-E-T to respond with four of its own in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of Mack’s two-run double and Alexis Ouellette’s two-run home run to left.

RBI singles by Brookelynn Keller and Lorissa Thompson in the third extended the lead to 7-2, and the Red Hawks added three final runs in the sixth on another Mack two-run double and Scow’s RBI single.

Thompson finished 4 for 4 with a pair of RBIs, Mack went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and Ellie Cox was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

G-E-T 12 Westby 5

Much like the first game, the G-E-T bats were plenty active in second game of their doubleheader against Westby last week, culminating in an emphatic sweep.

Unlike that first game, the Red Hawks’ run production was more spread out throughout. They scored at least on run in every inning but the fifth. Though the Norsemen stayed within striking distance most the way, a final four-run burst in the top of the seventh allowed G-E-T to push things out of reach.

At the plate for the Red Hawks, Ruby Johnson went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and a run, Scow finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs, and both Ouellette and Kinley Andersen had two hits apiece.
