The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau American Legion baseball team enjoyed a successful weekend of tournament play, narrowly missing out on finishing as the champions.
Westby won the 2025 Onalaska Legion 19U Tournament by going 3-1 and owning the head-to-head tiebreaker over G-E-T, who also was 3-1. Black River Falls went 2-2 over the weekend while both Fennimore and host Onalaska finished 1-3.
Earlier that week, Post 354 (15-5) beat Bangor and swept a doubleheader against Arcadia as part of what eventually extended to a 10-game winning streak before the lone loss over the weekend.
G-E-T 8 Bangor 4
After falling behind 3-0 briefly, Post 354 outscored Bangor 8-1 the rest of the way to pick up the win last Wednesday in Galesville.
G-E-T put together three runs in the bottom of the second — including a Calvin Davis RBI single — and a pair of bases-loaded walks. They followed that in the third with a four-run rally kickstarted by a Mitchell Thell RBI double.
Davis helped lead the charge for Post 354 by going 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
G-E-T 9 Arcadia 7
In a game featuring plenty of back-and-forth action, it was G-E-T who had the decisive final rally to capture a win in the first game of a doubleheader last Thursday at Parker Hagg Field.
Prestin Scow drove in Deklyn Grzadzielewski with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first to give Arcadia the early 1-0 lead. G-E-T had the first big rally by scoring four runs, kickstarted by a Mitchell Thell RBI single.
Post 354’s lead sat at 6-2 through five innings (including another Thell RBI single in the top of the fifth) but Arcadia leapfrogged its way ahead in the bottom of the sixth with a five-run rally that was aided by Logan Wenger’s RBI double.
Now trailing by one in the top of the seventh, G-E-T knotted the score at 7-7 thanks to Oliver Marley’s sacrifice fly and an Oliver Remus two-run double.
At the plate for G-E-T, Thell went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and a run while both Ben Hansen and Nathan Holthaus finished 3 for 4 with three runs scored apiece.
As for Post 17, Tucker Bambenek was 2 for 4 with a run and Grzadzielewski finished 2 for 5 with a pair of runs scored.
G-E-T 7 Arcadia 2
Following the fireworks of the first game of last week’s doubleheader, G-E-T took care of business more easily in the second (which was only five innings) to complete the sweep of Post 17.
G-E-T got on the board right away in the top of the first with back-to-back RBI singles by Hansen and Holthaus. Arcadia’s Max Sobotta answered in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run single of his own to tie the score at 2-2.
Post 354 handled the rest of the scoring from there, with Hansen collecting another RBI single in the second, Calvin Davis coming home on an error in the fourth and three final runs scoring in the fifth.
Davis, Hansen, Holthaus and Wyatt Oines each had two hits apiece in the win. Thell picked up the win for G-E-T by allowing two runs on six hits and a walk in five innings with three strikeouts.
G-E-T 16 Onalaska 1
In a game that started last Friday, was postponed due to weather and finally finished early on Saturday, G-E-T began its run at the Onalaska tournament by steamrolling the hosts.
Post 354 cruised to a five-inning win, which featured a seven-run rally in the second inning and a five-run outburst in the fourth.
Oliver Marley went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Adain Busch finished 2 for 4 with a run scored, Caiden Brady drove in three runs and Davis drew three walks and scored thrice.
Ben Hansen got the win on the mound, surrendering one run on one hit and five walks while striking out six.
Westby 7 G-E-T 4
A late push that trimmed a six-run deficit to two wasn’t enough as Post 354 fell to Westby in a Saturday game that ultimately determined the Onalaska tournament champion.
Hansen, Marley and Nicholas Crum each had a single for G-E-T in the defeat, which snapped the team’s 10-game winning streak.
G-E-T 16 Fennimore 1
Post 354 poured the runs on to pummel Fennimore for a four-inning victory last Sunday in Onalaska.
G-E-T’s superb offensive performance was headlined by an eight-run outburst in the top of the third. Marley went 3 for 3 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs, Crum finished 2 for 2 with two walks, three RBIs and a run scored, and Thell was 2 for 3 with a walk and two runs.
Calvin Davis tossed three scoreless innings on his way to registering the win on the mound.
G-E-T 11 BRF 1
G-E-T closed out its run at the Onalaska tournament by breezing past Black River Falls in five innings on Sunday afternoon.
Hansen was 2 for 2 with a double, two walks, two RBIs and two runs, Nathan Holthaus finished 2 for 3 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs and Thell went 2 for 4 with three RBIs.
Wyatt Oines tossed five innings, allowing one run on five hits, one walk and one hit batter while notching two strikeouts.
Arcadia falls to BRF, swept by G-E-T
The Arcadia Post 17 American Legion baseball team struggled last week, losing to Black River Falls before being swept by Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau.
Arcadia fell to BRF, 11-3, last Wednesday before being taken down twice by G-E-T the next day.
Arcadia (4-5) is set to finish up the regular season next Tuesday by hosting Fall Creek at 7 p.m. at Parker Hagg Field.
BRF 11 Arcadia 3
Arcadia was unable to keep up with the scoring output of BRF Post 200 in the clash between the two teams last Wednesday in Black River Falls.
Post 17 did strike first in the top of the first on Ben Lightfoot’s RBI single, but BRF went on to build up a 7-1 lead through four innings. Arcadia got two back in the top of the fifth after Lightfoot came through again with an RBI double and later scored on a passed ball.
However, BRF poured on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to effectively quash any hope of a comeback win for Post 17.
Lightfoot finished 2 for 4 with his run scored and two RBIs, while Steve Meyer went 2 for 3 at the plate.
