G-E-T no match for state-ranked Blugolds
The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau football team knew they were facing an uphill battle when a state-ranked conference foe was coming to town. That visit resulted in a fourth straight loss for the Red Hawks during what has been a very difficult stretch of games to start the 2025 season.
The Aquinas Blugolds (4-0, 2-0), ranked second in Division Four in the state coaches’ poll coming into the week, brushed aside G-E-T (0-4, 0-2) for an emphatic 49-14 win in their Coulee matchup last Friday in Galesville.
Aquinas wasted no time pouring it on early, scoring a quick touchdown on its opening drive, forcing a punt and scoring another touchdown for a 14-0 lead not even five minutes into the game.
Another forced punt with G-E-T pinned back deep in its own territory allowed the Blugolds to take over inside the Red Hawk 30. Aquinas capitalized with another touchdown and led 20-0 through one quarter of action.
The Blugold barrage did not let up in the second quarter, with another trio of touchdowns allowing them to carry a 42-8 lead into the halftime break. The lone Red Hawk touchdown of the half came courtesy of Sawyer Foust’s 14-yard pass to Isaiah Carroll with 2:23 to go in the second quarter.
Aquinas found the end zone again on its opening drive of the second half to bring the running clock into effect. Midway through the fourth quarter, Foust connected with Carroll on a deep ball that the latter took to the house for an 84-yard touchdown to complete the scoring for the evening.
Foust completed 13 of 21 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns, with Carroll hauling in six receptions for 132 yards and both TDs.
Aquinas quarterback Ryan Johnson completed 7 of 11 passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns, Marcus Klar ran in a pair of TDs and Brady Lee took a punt return to the house.
The Red Hawks hit the road to face Black River Falls in a battle of two Coulee teams searching for their first win Friday at 7 p.m.
