Raiders second to BRF at pair of Coulee mini meets
On the heels of a Coulee Conference mini meet victory to help spark some hopes of competing with Black River Falls for the conference championship this fall, the Arcadia girls golf team had to settle for second-place finishes at a pair of mini meets last week at familiar courses in Trempealeau County.
The Raiders placed behind BRF at both their home meet at Arcadia Country Club and G-E-T’s home meet at Ettrick Golf Club, as the Tigers reasserted their status as the frontrunners is the conference title race.
Following the final Coulee mini meet of the schedule early in the week at Black River Falls, the 18-hole conference meet will be held Thursday at Trempealeau Mountain Golf Club starting at noon. Arcadia and G-E-T are then set to take part in a regional meet at Drugan’s Castle Mound in Holmen next Wednesday starting at 9 a.m.
Arcadia Country Club
Despite playing at the friendly confines of their home course, the Raiders finished well behind Black River Falls last Tuesday in Arcadia.
The Tigers posted a team score of 195 to defeat Arcadia (209) by 14 strokes in the third Coulee mini meet of the season. Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (229) followed in third with Westby/Viroqua (241) rounding out the team standings in fourth.
Westby/Viroqua senior Maddi Fletcher fired a 39 to finish seven strokes clear of BRF senior Kaylee Wood and her 46 in second. Cochrane-Fountain City freshman Bailey Kujak and BRF sophomore McKenzie Apicella each shot a 47 to tie for third and Arcadia junior Amaya Schlesser posted a 48 to round out the top five in the individual standings.
Other top golfers on the day for the Raiders were juniors Riley Walters with a 51, Kalyce Sobotta with a 53 and Sacia Boland with a 57.
Senior Jazlynn Olson and sophomore Julia Baures both carded a 49 to lead the way for the Red Hawks, who also had junior Madeline Ruud with a 62 and freshman Addy Devine with a 69.
Ettrick Golf Club
By a razor-thin margin, Arcadia missed out on evening things up with BRF in the season’s mini meet win column last Thursday in Ettrick.
The Tigers eked out their third victory in four mini meets by beating the Raiders by a single stroke, 201 to 202. They were followed in the team standings by G-E-T (234) in third and Westby/Viroqua (244) in fourth.
Arcadia had a trio of golfers finish in the top five in the individual standings: Sacia Boland in third with a 48 and the duo of Amaya Schlesser and Kalyce Sobotta tying for fifth with a pair of 50s. Riley Walters carded a 54 to round out the Raiders’ team score.
Only Maddi Fletcher (38) in first and Kaylee Wood (47) finished ahead of Boland among individual golfers.
The Red Hawks’ team score consisted of Jazlynn Olson with a 51, Julia Baures with a 55, Addy Devine with a 56 and sophomore Eva Schubert with a 72.
