G-E-T lets chance for first win slip away in loss to Rangers

Presented with a golden opportunity to pick up their first win of the 2025-26 season before the start of conference play, the Gale-Ettrick Trempealeau girls basketball team couldn’t quite capitalize on the road.

The Red Hawks (0-3) didn’t have the closing punch they needed in a 43-35 loss to the La Crosse Logan Rangers (1-3) this past Friday in La Crosse.

G-E-T did more than hold their own in the opening 18 minutes against the Rangers, using a late run to seize a halftime lead. The Red Hawks trailed 16-12 with under two minutes left in the half but scored the final six points — including a putback bucket by sophomore Caydie Thompson to tie it followed by a layup in the final seconds from Thompson — to leapfrog ahead 18-16 at the break.

G-E-T led by as much as six in the second half and maintained a 28-24 advantage with under 10 minutes to play, only to see Logan outscore them 19-7 the rest of the way. That stretch included an 8-0 run by the Rangers after the game was tied at 30-30 to pull ahead for good.

Senior Lexi James posted a double-double for the Red Hawks with 13 points and 12 rebounds, sophomore Alexis Ouellette tallied 10 points and seven rebounds, Caydie Thompson and fellow sophomores Kennedy Scow and Brookelynn Keller each scored nine points, and sophomore Claire Baures added six points while hauling in 12 rebounds.

Double-digit scorers for La Crosse Logan were junior Emma Bacon with 17 points, junior Lilly Dettwiler with 16, senior Kaia DePaolo with 14 and senior Kenna Streeck with 10.

The Red Hawks follow their conference opener against Westby early this week with a non-conference road clash against Cochrane-Fountain City on Friday at 7:15 p.m. After the weekend, they host West Salem in Coulee action next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
