Red Hawks drops two of three in final week of regular season

With Coulee Conference play already wrapped up and the owners of a first-round bye, the G-E-T softball team kept themselves occupied prior to their postseason opener with a trio of games heading into Memorial Day weekend.

The Red Hawks (13-7) went 1-2 in their final week of regular season action, defeating Brookwood while suffering losses to both Holmen and Onalaska.

If second-seeded G-E-T gets past No. 7 seed Wautoma in their Division Three regional semifinal, they would host either No. 3 seed Richland Center or No. 6 seed Prairie du Chien in the regional finals Thursday at 5 p.m.

The winner of that game advances to next Tuesday’s sectional semifinals.

Holmen 6 G-E-T 3

The Red Hawks suffered their first of two defeats to Mississippi Valley Conference teams with a home loss to Holmen (16-8) last Monday.

After falling behind 3-0, G-E-T got their first run when Ruby Johnson scored on an error in the bottom of the third. The Vikings added three more runs in the top of the fifth, followed by a Brookelynn Keller sac fly in the sixth and a Lorissa Thompson RBI single in the seventh for the Red Hawks to round out the scoring.

G-E-T catcher Tori Thoma went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

G-E-T 7 Brookwood 5

The Red Hawks got the better of the Brookwood Falcons (16-9) of the Scenic Bluffs Conference last Tuesday in Wilton.

Already leading 1-0, a Thoma single in the top of the third led to a pair of runs scoring and Alexis Ouellette drove in Thoma with an RBI double. The Falcons answered with their own three-run rally in the bottom half of the inning, though Thoma hit an RBI single as part of a two-run fifth and Joshlyn Lunsford tacked on an RBI single of her own in the sixth for G-E-T.

Johnson and Thoma each collected a pair of hits in the victory.

Onalaska 11 G-E-T 1

The Hilltoppers (17-9) rolled to a five-inning, mercy-rule win over the Red Hawks this past Thursday at Jaycee Field in Onalaska.

The lone G-E-T run came in the top of the third, when Ouellette drove in Lunsford with an RBI single. Additional singles by Kennedy Scow, Johnson and Thoma were the only other hits for the Red Hawks in the loss.
