Names released in fatal Trempealeau crash

The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of those involved in a fatal two-vehicle crash reported last week in the town of Trempealeau.

The crash happened at about 4:58 a.m. June 13 on Highway 93, about 0.2 miles north of Fox Coulee Lane.

According to the sheriff’s office, a black SUV driven by Maidao Yang, 38, of Eau Claire, was traveling south on State Road 93 when it struck a deer. Investigators said Yang lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a pickup truck driven by Aleck Lehnartz, 24, of Winona.

A passenger in the SUV, Amber Shovald, 42, of Eau Claire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yang and Lehnartz were both transported by helicopter to a hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office.
