G-E-T suffers first Coulee loss in West Salem

After coming out of the gates in Coulee play with a five-set win over Black River Falls and a sweep of Arcadia, the G-E-T volleyball team faced a level up in competition when they went on the road to square off against West Salem.

Though the Red Hawks showed some impressive resolve to bounce back from an extremely lopsided second set to avoid the sweep in the third, they still endured their first conference loss of the year against the Panthers.

West Salem eked out a 25-20 win in the opening set of the evening, then absolutely put the throttle down to win the second 25-5. G-E-T bounced back in an impressive way, winning the third 25-23 to keep the match alive. However, the Panthers flipped that score to win the fourth 25-23 to avoid a decider and close out the victory.

Leaders for the Red Hawks in the four-set defeat included junior Rylynn Simons with 12 kills, seven digs and two aces, sophomore Ally Burns with nine kills, junior Claire Baures with five kills, freshman Liliana Pederson with 23 digs, and juniors Taryn Leighty and Amelia Walz with 15 and 12 assists, respectively.

G-E-T will take part in a triangular next Tuesday in Onalaska, facing Viroqua at 6 p.m. and Luther at 7:30 p.m.
