Red Hawks knock off Raiders
For a second time this season, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau volleyball team picked up a rivalry win over Arcadia — this time doing it on the road.
The Red Hawks (15-15, 4-6 Coulee) lost a marathon opening set, then bounced back to win the next three over the Raiders (7-22, 0-11) 26-28, 25-10, 25-13, 26-24 last Tuesday at the Wanek Center.
Trailing 16-10 in the opening set, the Raiders raced back to knot things up late and the two teams started trading points with neither able to close out the set. With the score tied 26-26, two consecutive return errors from G-E-T allowed Arcadia to seize a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Red Hawks responded well to win the next two sets in convincing fashion, then found themselves in another tight battle in the fourth. Trailing 24-22, G-E-T staved off three Arcadia set points and went on a 5-1 run to close out the match, punctuated by a Madeline Hale kill on match point.
Leading the charge for the Red Hawks were Rylynn Simmons with 20 kills, seven aces and 10 digs, Ally Burns with eight kills, Taryn Leighty with 23 assists, 11 digs and eight aces, Liliana Pederson with 12 digs and Amelia Walz with 12 assists.
Arcadia stat leaders included Tatum Drazkowski with 11 kills, 16 digs and three aces, Teagan Pientok with six kills, Megan Breska with three aces and Sophia Jereczek with 15 assists and 10 digs.
