The Blair-Taylor football team never got its offense going in Friday’s regular-season finale, a 20-8 loss to Augusta.
The Beavers took the lead on the game’s opening possession, marching down the field before Nathan Atchinson scored a short touchdown. The two-point conversion made the score 8-0.
The teams exchanged turnovers, with B-T throwing two interceptions and Augusta losing two fumbles. After the second B-T interception, Augusta’s James Shonk hit Owen Lee for a 40-yard touchdown. The two-point try was stopped, but Augusta had a 14-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
It looked like B-T scored twice on its final drive of the first half. Both times quarterback Matthew Beck snuck into the end zone from a yard out. The first was blown dead as B-T was called for a false start. On the second, B-T was penalized for illegally assisting the ball carrier. That set up a fourth-and-goal from the 6-yard line, but an incomplete pass ended the B-T possession.
Atchison scored again for Augusta in the second half and, again, the two-point try was no good.
The Wildcats got on the board with a touchdown pass from Beck to Carter Markos, but the Beavers maintained control of the game.
The loss put B-T’s final record at 1-8 as the team failed to make the playoffs for the first time in eight years.
