Darell M. “Norm” “Smiley” Herold

 

Darell Milton “Norm” “Smiley” Herold, 81, of Tomah, died Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

Darell was born August 4, 1940, in Waumandee, to Milton and Dorothy (Waletzki) Herold. He graduated from Arcadia High School. Darell was in active duty with the Wisconsin Army National Guard, serving during the Berlin Crisis; a member of American Legion Tickfer-Erickson Legion Post 17. He worked at the Case Research Test Center in Racine, Northwestern Motors in Eau Claire, A-G Co-op in Arcadia, farmed in Buffalo County, owned and operated Herold’s Dam Site Restaurant in Alma and worked at Foremost Farms in Waumandee, retiring in 2006.

Darell is survived by his children: Steven (Paula) Herold of Berea, KY, Craig (Lora) Herold of Tomah, WI, Valerie (Jack) Bauer of Sturtevant, WI, Kevin Herold of La Crosse, WI; sister, Yvonne (John) Foegen of Goodview, MN; seven grandchildren; nephew, Juan (Anne) Foegen; and niece, Wendy (Darin) Ziegler.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home, 1378 E. Wilson Ave., Arcadia. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
