Edwin “Ed” Fairchild

Edwin “Ed” Fairchild, 79, of Canby, MN, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, at his home near Canby.

Edwin was born March 23, 1943, in Canby, MN, to parents Mark and Annie (Christianson) Fairchild. He was raised on the Canby farm with his brothers and sisters: Evelyn, Ivan, Daniel, Lester, Theodore, Henry, Pearl, Nina, June. He served in the National Guard. Edwin married Mary Ann Moe, November 12, 1966, at Fagernes Lutheran Church in Blair. To this union, they were blessed with two children: Tom and Faye. Together, Mary and Edwin farmed west of Canby and raised their children. He raised registered polled Herefords and hogs. For a few years, he also raised and sold chihuahua puppies in the Chicago area.

Edwin enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting. For a few years after they were married, Ed enjoyed flying in his airplane, an Aronca 7AC Champion. He was handy with making things and made a lot of the things he needed on the farm. After he retired from farming, Ed started wood working and made several wood projects. He built his own lumber mill to make wood with for his projects.Ed gave away many of his wood projects to family and friends.

Edwin is survived by brother, Henry; sisters: Nina and June; son, Tom, and his wife, Christina; daughter, Faye; and grandson, Mason.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Annie; and sisters: Evelyn and Pearl; brothers: Ivan, Daniel, Lester and Theodore; and his wife, Mary Ann (Moe) Fairchild.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., at Houseman Funeral Home in Canby with Pastor Nick Alfaro officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with a graveside service will be Friday, September 9, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at Fagernes Lutheran Cemetery in Blair.
