Helen J. Stalheim

 

Helen Jane Stalheim, 91, of Pigeon Falls, passed away peacefully, Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Helen was born to George and Blanche (Rozelle) Smith, December 14, 1934, in Park Falls. She grew up in the Merrillan area and graduated from Alma Center High School in 1952. Helen married Nels N. Stalheim, August 24, 1967, in Pigeon Falls.

Helen worked many jobs in her lifetime and her last job that she retired from was as a dietary aide at the Pigeon Falls Nursing Home. Helen enjoyed playing cards with the neighbors, Maynard Roelof and Marvel Sesvold, along with her sister, Mary, and brother-in-law, Howard. She also enjoyed quilting with the church ladies and made many quilts for her children and grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her five children and a step-son: Charles E. Smith of Altoona, Perry Smith of Rutland, IL, Penny (Pat) Walske of Pigeon Falls, Sally Stalheim of Pigeon Falls, Wayne Stalheim of Pigeon Falls and Ronald Stalheim of Taylor; 12 grandchildren: Cary Stalheim, Robert (Kristana) Smith, Cody (Deborah) Smith, Dori (Justin) Hall, Kacy Smith, Zachary Stalheim, Ericka Smith, Brandiwyne Smith, Sabrina (Juston Scott) Smith, Josh (Destiny) Walske, Megan Walske and Graysen Stalheim; a sister, Mary Duerkop; a brother, John Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her step-son, Nels Ray Stalheim; and a grandson, Jeremy Stalheim.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., at Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls with burial in Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Gregory Ofsdahl will officiate.

Visitation will be Friday, May 22, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday.
