LaVerd C. Kindschy

LaVerd Carlyle Kindschy, 93, of Whitehall passed to eternity in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, October 19, 2021. LaVerd had been a resident at Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall for the past two years.
LaVerd was born at home, October 30, 1927, in the Town of Montana, Buffalo County, to Ralph and Gertrude (Becker) Kindschy. LaVerd was the oldest of six boys. He attended Lincoln School and Cochrane High School, Buffalo County.
LaVerd had many jobs during his life, beginning his work experience at home, farming with his father and also with neighboring farmers. LaVerd drove a dump truck for road work and was also employed in his early years of adulthood at Waukesha Motors with his brother, Gerry. LaVerd served in the U.S. Army from May 1951 to May 1953, spending part of his service in Germany.
LaVerd married Bernice Kaste, September 26, 1953, at Harold United Methodist Church in rural Alma. They were married 65 years, operating a successful dairy and crop farm between Whitehall and Blair for many years. LaVerd loved the Lord and loved the land, the smell of the soil in the spring at planting season. He also took great joy in harvesting a good crop. In his own words LaVerd said, “I was just a plain and simple farmer that began farming in the Whitehall area after our wedding.” Following 53 years of farming LaVerd and Bernice retired and moved to Whitehall in 2001.
LaVerd is survived by their daughter, Diane (Fred) Nehring of Whitehall; six grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. They include: Andy (Julie) Nehring and their children Micah, Evan and Matthew of Whitehall; Nick (Joanna) Nehring and their children Julia, Amos, Isaac, Titus, Silas and Mary Jo of La Grande, Georgia; Tony (Michelle) Nehring and their children Lola and Wally of La Crosse; Cathy (Aaron) Triphan and their children Caleb, Tirza, Victoria and Peter of Green Bay; Wesley (Caitlyn) Nehring and their children William, Isabella, Adeline and Samuel of Menomonie; Angie (Zack) Szyman and son Jadon of Minneapolis, MN.
LaVerd is also survived by brothers: Willfred of rural Osseo, David of Hahira, GA, Carroll (Carol) of Wausau, and Eugene (Tammy) of Pigeon Falls; sister-in-law, Colleen Kaste of Cochrane; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, December 22, 2018; parents, Ralph and Gertrude; his son, Curtis; and brother, Gerald.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at United Methodist Church, Whitehall with burial in Lincoln Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, October 24, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. There was a military graveside service.
