Lewis “Lewie” D. Sura

Lewis “Lewie” D. Sura, 90, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025, in his home.
Lewie was born August 4, 1934, in the Town of Chimney Rock, Trempealeau County, the son of Roman and Rose (Kampa) Sura. Lewie married Janice (Castad) Sura, August 23, 1957, at Fort Bragg, NC. Three children were born into this union.
Lewie was formerly employed by Fairbanks Morse from 1955 until his retirement in 1997. Lewie was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1958. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Beloit. Born and raised in Wisconsin, Lewie took great pride in his roots. His love for homegrown beets, apples and pickles was rivaled only by his appreciation for a good Wisconsin cheese, homemade coffee cake and the simple joy of sharing a Spotted Cow. To him, there were no strangers—only friends he hadn’t met yet.
Survivors include: his wife, Janice; children: Kathleen (James) Schumacher of Niceville, FL, and Kari (Thomas) Ptacin of Roscoe, IL; grandchildren: Kyle (Julie) Schumacher, Krista (Ben) Campbell, Thomas Ptacin, and Anna Ptacin; great-grandchildren: Ryan, Ashton, and Grace; sister, Patricia (Charles) Rumpel of Eau Claire.
Lewie was predeceased by his parents; son, Steven Sura; and brother, Marcel Sura.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Lewie was held. Burial was in Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Independence. A Celebration of Life will be held in Beloit at a later date.
Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.daleymurphywisch.com.
