Mark A. Windjue

Mark Alvin Windjue, 70, of Whitehall, died Saturday, April 4, 2020, at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall.

Mark was born December 20, 1949, in Whitehall to Alvin and Jeannette (Johnson) Windjue. He married Vicki L. Petersen, November 11, 1972 in Eleva. Vicki preceded Mark in death, June 27, 2019.

Mark graduated from Whitehall High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mark was employed with the City of Whitehall for over thirty years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Whitehall Fire Department for over twenty years and served as chief for nine years. Mark also served several years on the Whitehall School District’s Board of Education.

Mark was a huge Wisconsin sports fan, especially the Packers and the Badgers. He enjoyed fishing trips, golf, socializing with friends, cooking chicken with the Whitehall Fire Department for local events, reading and crossword puzzles.

As a grandfather, father, husband, brother, son and friend, Mark loved all the people in his life.

Mark is survived by two children: Jami (Jess) Hanvold of Whitehall and Josh (Sara) Windjue of Plover; four grandchildren: Emilia and Chase Hanvold and Taylin and Reese Windjue; four sisters: Ellen (Russell) Koxlien, Jane (Randy) Olson and Martha (Steven) Fremstad, all of Whitehall, and Sarah (Layne) Anderson of Ettrick; six brothers: John (Linda) and Paul (Jeanine) Windjue, both of Strum, Thomas (Charlotte), Eric and James Windjue, all of Whitehall, and Robert (Theresa) Windjue of Rapid City, SD.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mark was preceded in death by his twin sister, Mary.

Private family services and burial will be at Lincoln Cemetery in Whitehall. Military rites will be conducted by the Hutchins-Stendahl American Legion Post #191.

A public celebration of Mark’s life will be held at a later date.

Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.
