Ronald “Ron” V. Benrud

 

Ronald Vern Benrud, 87, of rural Galesville, passed away February 4, 2024, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.

Ron was born in Galesville, to Rudolph “Rudy” and Genevieve “Jennie” (Johnson) Benrud, January 1, 1937. He was a graduate of Galesville High School. Ron worked many years as a skilled welder/pipefitter and was a veteran serving his country in the U.S. Navy. He ran a gun shop out of the basement of the family home in Tamarack and was a life-long member of the NRA. Ron was a passionate outdoorsman, hunter and trapper. He won many trapshooting competitions and was a lifetime member of the Gunslick Trap Club in Holmen. More recently, Ron enjoyed spending time at his cabin up north (near Draper) hunting with his many friends and beloved bear hounds.

Survivors are his sons: Gregory Benrud of Appleton, WI, Brian Lundquist of Jackson, WI, Terry Benrud of Las Vegas, NV; and a grandson, Andrew Benrud of Las Vegas, NV.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy; and sons: Dean Winters and Timothy Benrud.

A memorial gathering will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville. Burial will follow in Pine Cliff Cemetery, Galesville.
