Samuel “Sam” A. Speltz

Samuel “Sam” Alyn Speltz, 86, of Cochrane, passed away peacefully at Winona Health Hospital, Saturday, October 25, 2025.

Sam was born March 26, 1939, in Winona, MN, to Arnold & Lillian Speltz. He grew up in Rollingstone, MN. On June 13, 1964, Sam married Kathleen Morgan and they were married for 56 years. Sam & Kathy operated Kochenderfer Oil Co. in Cochrane for 19 years. He then went on to work for Severson Oil Co. Sam was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Alma. In his free time, Sam enjoyed mowing lawn and going for joy rides around town.

Sam is survived by his sons: Ron (Diane) Speltz, Bruce (Lynette) Speltz; and daughter, Diane (Donnie) Bjorge; grandchildren: Jenna (Tyler) Blaskowski, Mitchell & Jordan Speltz, Morgan (Evan) Pagel, Sara, Jacob & Matthew Bjorge; great-grandchildren: Grace & Lauren Blaskowski; and special grand-pups, Mollie, Maggie & Oakley. Sam is further survived by his brother, Joe Speltz.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; son, Roger; parents, Arnold & Lillian; sisters: Elaine Foster, Jeanne Clappier and Anabelle Schuster; brothers: Donny, Ed, Rodney, Jim and Kenny Speltz.

Per Sam’s wishes, a private family service will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Alma. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona, MN.
