Arcadia settles for third at state tournament
The Arcadia American Legion Post 17 softball team made it to the final day of the state softball tournament competition, but came up one win shy of earning the chance to play for a state championship.
Arcadia finished in third among the eight teams competing at the 2026 Wisconsin American Legion Softball State Tournament, held last weekend at the MARC Complex in Merrill. Medford went unbeaten over the weekend to capture the state title over runner-up Waupun.
By going 3-2 at the state tournament, Post 17 finished up their summer with a 7-3 overall record.
Arcadia 14 Allenton 3
An eight-run rally helped Arcadia pull away in their state opener against Allenton last Friday.
Already leading 4-0, Post 17 put together that game-sealing rally in the bottom of the third with Lily Dickman and Tatum Drazkowski each hitting RBI singles and the rest of the runs scoring on errors. Drazkowski’s RBI triple the following inning helped ensure that Arcadia would win via the mercy rule after five innings.
Drazkowski finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Teagan Pientok earned the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs and three total while striking out five in five innings.
Medford 10 Arcadia 0
Originally scheduled for Friday night before weather postponed the game to Saturday morning, the eventual state champions race past Arcadia when the two teams finally met.
Post 17 fell in five innings, with their only hit coming on Layna Wozney’s two-out single to left in the top of the fourth.
Arcadia 8 Sparta 3
Having already beaten Sparta twice on their path to winning a regional title the week prior, Arcadia got the better of Post 100 yet again in their state rematch this past Saturday.
Wozney helped set the pace for Post 17 in the victory, going 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs, including an exclamation point of a solo home run to lead off the top of the fifth. Pientok and Madison Grotjahn each notched a pair of hits as well, with Pientok also pitching all seven innings in which she surrendered three unearned runs.
Arcadia 9 Wausau 8
It took an extra inning, but Arcadia managed to cap off Saturday on a winning note to keep their season alive into the final day by defeating the Post 10 Patriots.
A Drazkowski RBI double in the top of the eighth turned out to be the difference in Post 17’s extra-inning triumph, capping off a big game for Drazkowski and a wild back-and-forth affair.
Both teams traded three-run rallies over the first four innings (Wausau in the first and third innings, Arcadia in the second and fourth innings) before each scored twice in the sixth as the two teams remained deadlocked at 8-8 through seven innings.
Amaya Schlesser drew a one-out walk in the eighth and came around to score on Drazkowski’s double one batter later. Pientok set down Wausau in order in the bottom half of the inning to seal the deal.
Drazkowski finished the game 4 for 5 with two doubles, four RBIs and a run, while Riley Walters went 2 for 5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Waupun 9 Arcadia 4
Arcadia’s pursuit of playing in the final round for a state title was dashed with their loss to Waupun last Sunday.
A six-run rally for Post 210 in the bottom of the second proved to be too much for Post 17 to overcome. Drazkowski and Wozney each doubled and had a pair of hits, making up four of the team’s six total hits.
