Area golfers short of D3 state cut

Two area golfers both shot in the 90s while the cut to advance to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Three State Tournament from the Mineral Point sectional was in the 70s.

Gabe Rombalski of Independence finished 30th overall with a 91, while Whitehall’s Keanu Estenson was 35th with a 93. The final individual qualifier from the sectional was Sam Dobbins of La Crosse Aquinas, who shot a 78.

Rombalski shot a 49 on the front nine and finished strong with a 42on the back. Estenson had a 45 on the front nine and came in with a 48 on the back.

The competition proved to be stiff as two teams to advance were Mineral Point with a 327 and Fennimore with a 334, but three of the top four golfers weren’t on either of those teams.

Cochrane-Fountain City represented the Dairyland Conference in the team standings, finishing sixth with a 362.
