G-E-T blanks Viroqua to keep rolling in Coulee play

While it’s still far too early to start getting too caught up in any kind of conference championship race, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau softball team couldn’t have scripted a better start to Coulee play than what they’ve done so far.

The Red Hawks (6-1, 4-0 Coulee) kept rolling right along against conference competition thus far with an 8-0 shutout victory over Viroqua/Youth Initiative (7-4, 3-2) last Monday in Galesville.

G-E-T wasted no time grabbing control of the game on Monday, plating four runs in the bottom of the first with a rally that featured Kennedy Scow’s two-run homer to center and Caroline Mack’s RBI single.

The Red Hawks doubled their score with two runs in both the third and sixth innings, including Alexis Ouellette’s leadoff home run to start the bottom of the sixth.

Halene DeJager tossed a complete-game shutout for G-E-T, allowing four hits and two walks while punching out three in seven innings.

At the plate for G-E-T, Brookelynn Keller went 3 for 3 while Scow, Mack and Ellie Cox each finished 2 for 3.

The Red Hawks moved to 4-0 in conference play with that win, which also included a sweep of Black River Falls and a victory against Onalaska Luther. They outscored their opponents 50-8 in those four wins.

G-E-T has a pair of home games late this week, hosting Westby on Thursday and Onalaska on Friday at 7 p.m. Early next week, the Red Hawks are at La Crosse Central on Monday at 4:30 p.m. and host Bangor Tuesday at 5 p.m.

A road game against Viroqua scheduled for last Thursday was postponed due to incoming inclement weather and will be made up at a later date.
