AHS softball team splits with Westby, W. Salem

As the regular season wound down, the Arcadia softball team split with two Coulee Conference foes.

The Raiders struggled offensively as they fell to a 16-1 Westby team 7-3 last week Tuesday. On Friday, their bats came alive in an 11-3 win over West Salem.  No further details from the Westby game were reported to the Times.

Arcadia finished its regular season with a 13-3 loss to Black River Falls on Monday — see more in next week’s Times — giving them a final record of 6-9 and a 6-6 mark in the Coulee Conference, good for fourth place.

The seventh-seeded Raiders opened Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament play with a home game against (10) St. Croix Central on Wednesday of this week. With a win, they’d advance to play (2) Westby for the third time this season on Monday.

Five runs in the first inning put the Raiders in control.

The Raiders added four more runs in the third before the Panthers got on the board with one in the bottom half of the inning. Arcadia added two more in the fourth before West Salem scored one in the bottom of the fourth and one in the fifth.

Courtney Bjorge got the win, pitching a complete game with three walks and seven hits allowed while striking out two.

The Raiders had 13 hits as Chloe Halverson, Casidi Pehler, Catherine Pehler, Hailey Sonsalla and Hallie Tulip all had two. Tulip had three RBIs while Brynn Aspen and Hailey Sonsalla both had two.
