You would never guess Arcadia’s Landon Jaszewski was only a freshman based on his consistently strong play for the Raiders all throughout this spring. That steadiness continued into the 2025 Coulee Conference Championship despite a whirlwind week trying to just get the event played.
The conference championship meet was originally slated to be played last Tuesday at Trempealeau Mountain Golf Club, but steady rain caused it to be both postponed and relocated.
The topsy turvy week did not seem to rattle Jaszewski, who fired an 82 to tie for fifth alongside Westby/Viroqua senior Brooks Hoffland in the individual standings at last Thursday’s conference meet at Viroqua Hills Golf Course.
“I like where Landon finished today,” said Arcadia head coach Mike Sobotta. “He’s playing with the big dogs, and he played very well being a freshman and the other guys being juniors and seniors.”
A double bogey on the 17th and a bogey on the 18th for Jaszewski kept him just a shot back of a four-way tie for first at 81 between West Salem senior Kyle Hehli and the Black River Falls trio of junior Nathan Gargulak and sophomores Sam Everson and Sam Aebly.
Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau was guided by senior Nic Jumper, who shot an 88 to tie for 13th.
Other Arcadia golfers included sophomore Tharren Schock with a 91, senior Stryder Miller and freshman Owen Anderson each with a 93, senior Carson Schultz with a 98 and sophomore Brogan Solberg with a 102.
The Red Hawks had sophomore McGuire Slaby with a 91, junior Kylan Olson and sophomore Braydan Van Vreede each with a 95, freshman Alex Anderson with a 100 and junior Aiden Johnson with a 102.
Black River Falls dominated with a first-place team score of 330, ahead of West Salem (342) in second, Westby/Viroqua (347) in third, Onalaska Luther (351) in fourth, Arcadia (359) in fifth, G-E-T (369) in sixth and Wonewoc-Center/Hillsboro (426) in seventh.
In addition to winning the meet, the Tigers also locked up the season-long race for the conference championship. Points are given out based on team placements at each of the Coulee’s seven nine-hole mini meets and the 18-hole conference championship finale to determine a champion.
Black River Falls led the final team standings with 96 points, followed by West Salem (85) in second, Luther (82) in third, Westby/Viroqua (77) in fourth, G-E-T (51) in fifth, Arcadia (41) in sixth and Wonewoc-Center/Hillsboro (16) in seventh.
A season-long points system is also used to determine individual postseason honors. Hoffland staked his claim as the conference’s top golfer by accruing 143.5 points. The top five golfers in points make up the all-conference first team, the next five make up the second team and the next five are honorable mentions.
Hoffland was joined on the All-Coulee first team by Hehli (117.5), Aebly (116.5), Jaszewski (116) and Luther freshman Robert Bruns (108.6). Second-team honorees consisted of BRF junior Chris Antonelli (96), Luther seniors Ian Bass (86.5) and Synclair Byus (79), G-E-T’s Jumper (78) and BRF junior Calvin Lakowske (72.375).
The list of All-Coulee honorable mentions featured West Salem sophomore Noah Wachter (50.5), Westby/Viroqua senior Hudson Nundahl (47.5), West Salem senior Gavin Loging (46.7), Westby/Viroqua junior Gavyn Hansen (46) and G-E-T’s Anderson (42).
Both Arcadia and G-E-T were among those competing at a WIAA Division 2 meet early this week at Trempealeau Mountain Golf Club. Qualifying teams and golfers advance to the Hayward sectional, which will be held Wednesday at Hayward Golf Course starting at 10 a.m.
“With Nic Jumper being our only senior and our senior leader, it’s really special for him to be able to play his senior regional meet at home at Trempealeau Mountain,” said G-E-T head coach Michael Jon Mullikin.
