Arcadia baseball improves to 3-1

A conference win and another victory of the come-from-behind variety were the highlights of last week for the Arcadia High School baseball team.

The Raiders improved to 3-1 on the season despite losing their first game of the year last Tuesday.

Nearby G-E-T was scheduled to visit the Raiders this Tuesday before Arcadia continues their string of Coulee Conference games in Black River Falls on Thursday.

After allowing the visiting Mounders to cut their lead to 4-3 in the top of the third inning last Monday, the Raiders ballooned for four runs in the bottom half of the inning to carry them to the win.

Carson Martin and Prestin Scow each had two hits apiece, and the Raiders combined for three extra base hits with two doubles and a triple.

Arcadia out-hit the Mounders 6-5, and senior Connor Weltzien threw 10 strikeouts for the first time this season to lead the Raiders on defense.

A single run in the first inning was the only scoring Arcadia would see last Tuesday against a Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) opponent.

Arcadia was contained to one hit from Martin. Prestin Scow threw three strikeouts from the mound.

Arcadia 7 Westby 1

The Raiders opened their Coulee Conference schedule in winning fashion on Friday, beating the Norse by six at home.

Arcadia claimed a 1-0 lead in the first inning and then added three runs in both the third and fourth innings. Arcadia held Westby to the lone run despite allowing nine hits, and Weltzien threw nine Ks.

Weltzien led the Raiders on offense, too, smashing three hits for three RBI. Caleb Glenzinski (two) also had multiple hits.
