Arcadia, Blair-Taylor open track and field season

The Arcadia and Blair-Taylor high school track and field teams opened the 2023 season last week with an invitational at University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Arcadia had the best team finish last Tuesday, earning a seventh-place finish in the girls’ competition out of 31 teams. Blair-Taylor did not score in the meet.

The Raider boys finished 12th as a team, while the Wildcats ended the day in 20th. Both teams also competed in an invitational at UW-La Crosse on Saturday (see story elsewhere in sports).

Arcadia had a handful of top finishers on the girls’ side last Tuesday, including junior Casidi Pehler winning the pole vault competition with a leap of 11 feet, nine inches.

Pehler, who reached the podium at the 2022 WIAA individual state championships in the event a year ago, was the lone vaulter to clear eight feet on Tuesday.

Senior Breah Golden’s work in the high jump was enough for second place, and Pehler finished fourth in the same event. Tegan Michalak also earned a top-three finish for Arcadia, taking third in the 3200-meter run.

Junior Landan Bremer took second in the 400-meter run for the Arcadia boys, and sophomore teammate Ted Teske finished sixth in both the 400 and high jump.

Nestor Badillo also earned points for Arcadia, as he rounded out the top five in the boys’ 3,200-meter run.

Blair-Taylor finished with a trio of top-ten finishes on Tuesday.

Paige Kelly earned ninth-place finishes in both the 55-meter and 200-meter dashes, and DaVonne Turner led the boys with his fifth-place finish in the long jump.
